Memo · the fine print
Free royalty free music, the fine print
Free to use with credit on all social media platforms (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Twitch, Facebook, X…), and livestreams are fine. Neither the music nor remixes, samples or covers of it may be uploaded to music streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube Music, because that causes false Content ID claims. Licence: CC BY 4.0.
The credit line
Music by Purrple Cat (purrplecat.com), licensed under CC BY 4.0: creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
Fine
- YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Twitch, Facebook, X and every other social platform, with credit.
- Livestreams and VODs, including monetized ones.
- Podcasts, slideshows, school projects, presentations.
- Trimming, looping and fading the music to fit your edit.
Not allowed
- Uploading the music, or remixes, samples or covers of it, to music streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube Music. It causes false Content ID claims, on your videos and on Purrple Cat’s own.
- Registering it with Content ID or any other fingerprinting system.
- Passing it off as your own music.
Licence
Everything on this board is licensed Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0). If a video gets a claim anyway, it’s a mistake; the credit line and this page are your proof.
Questions
- Is this music really free?
- Yes. All 356 tracks here are free to stream, download and use. There’s no sign-up, no email, no paid tier and no download limit. The one thing you owe is a credit line.
- What does “free royalty free music” mean?
- Royalty free means you don’t pay a fee each time the music is played or viewed. Most royalty free music still costs money up front. Free royalty free music skips that too: no fee up front and no royalties after. Here the licence is Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0).
- Do I have to credit Purrple Cat?
- Yes. CC BY 4.0 asks for credit, and that’s the whole price. Something like “Music by Purrple Cat (purrplecat.com), licensed under CC BY 4.0” in your description, caption, show notes or credits is enough.
- Can I use it in monetized videos and streams?
- Yes. CC BY 4.0 allows commercial use, so monetized videos, livestreams, sponsors and ads on your content are fine. Your channel still has to follow each platform’s own rules.
- Will I get a Content ID claim?
- Not from Purrple Cat. These Self Releases are not registered in YouTube Content ID, so Purrple Cat won’t claim your video. Once in a while a third party falsely claims a track. If that happens, dispute it with the licence and your credit line.
- What’s not allowed?
- Uploading the music, or remixes, samples or covers of it, to music streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube Music. That causes false Content ID claims for everyone who uses the music, Purrple Cat included.
- Can I download the music?
- Yes. Every track has an MP3 download, full length, no watermark, no preview clip.
- Is the music made with AI?
- No. Every track is Purrple Cat’s own music.
